Whether you realise it or not, you understand the music you love, just like you understand what someone is saying in English. Well, you can learn to understand other music - jazz, baroque classical, Indian music, anything! Once you understand it, you might find you like what it has to say. A little about me

My name is Haniell, and I'm a 30 year old musician and tutor. I have over 10 years experience teaching music privately and in schools. I teach GCSE, AS and A-level music and music technology for all the major exam boards - AQA, OCR, Eduqas/WJEC, Edexcel/Pearson, CCEA, SQA and Cambridge. I also teach ABRSM music theory, and music history, theory and composition to anyone who is studying or just interested, including undergraduate students and adult learners.

I have an MA in Musicology from King's College London. I started playing guitar twenty years ago, and I also play piano and bass guitar. Alongside teaching, I’m a singer-songwriter and composer. I love talking about music with people one-to-one. I want to know what you love about your favourite music, and from there we can expand your understanding. You shouldn’t forget why you chose to study music in the first place - because it means something special to you. By studying the history, theory and composition of music, more and more of it will become special to you.

Sam
A-level music student

Had a brilliant last few months being taught by Haniell. He has helped me massively boost my GCSE grade from a 5 to getting nearly full marks on the paper. His teaching style is very good and I would recommend him to anybody who is doing GCSE music.

Seb
GCSE music student

Haniell has been a fantastic teacher for my daughter who has just taken her GCSE. He understands how to motivate and get the best from pupils and to prepare them for the exams. His knowledge is immense and my daughter loved her lessons with him.

Parent of GCSE music student

Haniell is an amazing teacher and we are so happy to have found him. My 15 year old son thrived under his tutor-ledge – growing in musical confidence and enthusiasm. As a parent I very much enjoyed reading Haniell’s debrief email at the end of each lesson. It gave me a clear understanding of what was being covered and made me feel confident in the process.

Straight away from lesson one the feedback with helping with my composition has been very detailed and perfect - he was very good with the syllabus and what needs to be covered over the course. I think he's improved my work a lot and would have been hard to do on my own.
